Your Life After High School - Getting Ready for College

Rejection Letter? How to Deal When a College Doesn't Accept You

Well, you've written letters to your favorite colleges and are anxious to get the responses back. You've just gotten a rejection letter from your number one pick! You are angry, upset, and feel rejected.  All normal feelings.  Here are some suggestions on how to deal with it.

-First, be honest with yourself. You may be upset and devastated by a college not accepting you, but you need to accept the decision the college has made.

-Talk to someone you know, love, and trust.

-To begin with, send letters to a few colleges not just one. Do your homework; Study the campuses you are sending the letter too. Are these colleges right for you?

-One of my daughters did not get accepted at a large college.  We were offended and upset at first when we received the letter, but then we realized for some reason, it was not meant to be for her to go there. You may not see it now, but the same could be for you.

-Talk to your parents and counselors about other choices and options.

-If your still feeling bad or sad, write the college a letter about your feelings.  Don't send it of course, when you are done, read it out loud and then throw it away.  It might make you feel better.

-Just remember, there is a college for you. And getting into a college is the first step, then comes the student loans, grants, studying, and dedication.
